StarNet: Younger Audience Kit

StarNet: Younger Audience Kit

This kit is one of four solar science kits available for use by New Mexico public libraries. Libraries can use these kits and the associated training to develop engaging space science programs before and after the eclipse that capitalize on increased public interest in solar science.

The two activities in this kit explore concepts such as size, distance, temperature, shadows, and light.

Moon Bear's Shadow explores how objects create shadows by blocking light and how shadows change depending on the light source. Participants use a flashlight to create various shadows. This activity also includes a story portion and can be connected to solar eclipse events.

Sorting Games: How Big? How Far? How Hot? is a simple and engaging activity which introduces younger patrons to concepts such as size, distance, and temperature, and allows older patrons to explore these concepts further. They are excellent engagement activities for learners to begin thinking about our place in space.
