The 1947 Roswell UFO Incident Revisited: Constitutional and Legal Issues Online
The New Mexico State Library, the New Mexico Space Museum, and the University of New Mexico Department of Political Science are pleased to offer a free program, "The 1947 Roswell UFO Incident Revisited: Constitutional and Legal Issues," to be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. MT / 6:00-8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00-7:00 p.m. CT / 3:00-5:00 p.m. PT.
What are a governments powers during an emergency? How is the public’s right to information balanced against national security concerns? What happened with due process and public accountability during the Cold War? Four UNM student panelists, will discuss constitutional issues that can arise from a significant unidentified aerial phenomenon event, as applied to the Roswell case. The program will feature a brand new, legal examination of the legendary Roswell "Flying Saucer Crash " of July 2, 1947, one of the most discussed and debated events in modern space and cultural history.
